Kinky Boots The Musical | Coming to a Drive-Up Movie near You!

Stephanie Burke here! I am a Board member and proud ally of Scituate Pride and the entire LGBTQIA+ community. This year we are hosting a Drive-Up singalong musical and with the theme of 2021 Pride being Drag our the Hate no other musical seems more appropriate than Kinky Boots. This genius production is about discovering your passion, overcoming prejudice, and transcending stereotypes. This musical (and this entire year) reminds us that society is long overdue to change its viewpoint on what people perceive as being different.

The inspiration behind a singalong musical comes from none other than The Castro Theatre in San Francisco. Regularly, people of all ages, genders, and identities would come together belting out hits from The Sound of Music, Moana, and The Little Mermaid. If you ever need a reminder of how beautiful life is, I strongly encourage a visit to San Francisco to watch the music that can be made by a middle aged man in a red wig surrounded by several children in the same ensemble (see picture—although I bet you figured that out)!

Now we understand people can be a little bit shy or unfamiliar with randomly breaking out in song and that’s why we’ve teamed up with one of our Corporate Sponsors (who also happen to be professionals in the biz)  Spotlight Music & Theatre Academy. Each week the Spotlight team will get us ready for this first-of-its-kind event with musical performance and dance lessons! So grab your tickets, dust off your wig and get ready to Drag Out the Hate this June because as the cast of Kinky Boots sings, “You change the world when you change your mind!”
